Missions

Since the inception of Franklin Christian Church, world missions have been a vital part of our ministry.  We take very seriously the “Great Commission” of our Lord Jesus Christ when He said “Go into all the world and preach the gospel”.  From the beginning, we have contributed at least 10% of our annual budget to support missionaries around the world, and their efforts to spread the gospel, particularly among unreached people groups.  Currently we have close working ties to missionaries in Haiti, Dominican Republic, the Amazon region of Brazil, India, Tanzania, Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Australia, as well as supporting the American Indian Christian Mission.  We also support the International Disaster Emergency Services (IDES) organization, and have given thousands of dollars towards relief efforts of major disasters around the world.  Our people are encouraged to support other missions on their own, and take short term mission trips.  The church has sent out at least three of our own members for extended stays on the mission field.

Early in the church’s history, we raised support for missions through a program called “Faith Promise” in which individuals in the congregation could decide on their own to pledge money for missions yearly.  This program was successful for several years, and on some occasions we were giving as much as 25% of our budget to missions.  However, with the growth of the church, the need for a more stable cash flow to support our missionaries, and the desire to expand our mission program to include local missions, the decision was made this past year to go back to a percentage basis for giving to missions.  As of January 2010, ten percent of our annual budget will fund world missions, and an additional ten percent will fund local missions.  This provides the opportunity for every member of FCC to feel a part of the missions program.  Our desire now is to not only take the gospel around the world, but to also be very involved in our local community by partnering with organizations such as Graceworks, Against the Grain, Habitat for Humanity, and other worthwhile programs.

Both world missions and local missions have committees in the church to facilitate these ministries, and they both are under the oversight of the church Eldership for responsible use of God’s money.  Please check out the Web site links of our mission partners, and feel free to contact any of the World Mission or Local Mission Committee members with questions, comments, or a desire to serve on one of these groups.

At Franklin Christian Church we don’t want to be measured by our seating capacity but rather by our sending capacity.
