Brad & Tammie Harvey
Brad and Tammie Harvey are Bible translators in Tanzania working with Pioneer Bible Translators. After graduating from Milligan college in 1986, they moved to Dallas to begin training for ministry. Brad worked toward a Masters in Linguistics and Tammie toward a Masters in Anthropology. In 1993, they worked in Bible Translation among the Bala people in Northeastern Zaire, as well as survey for other language groups. Bible translating begins by determining the need and in many cases, giving the people an alphabet and written language before actual Bible translation can begin. The PBT Zaire branch closed in 1995, while Brad and Tammie were on furlough. When they returned to Africa, they began their ministry in Tanzania, overseeing sociolinguistic surveys for three years in order to help the branch prioritize translation and literacy needs. In October of 2000, PBT officially began its first translation project in Tanzania in conjunction with United Bible Society of Tanzania and in February of 2001, the Harvey Family moved to Morogoro to oversee both the Kaguru translation project and the Luguru translation project. Both of these languages are in the “Morogoro Cluster” of languages. Since that time, many other projects have also begun. Currently, Brad is the Assistant Director of Language Affairs, overseeing all language programs and Tammie is the East Africa Branch Director, and a trustee for a Street Children’s Ministry. Brad and Tammie have three children, Bradley, Yuda and Morrie.
